The Rome Police Department’s Sex Offender Registry Unit was established to monitor and track sex offenders following their release into the community. The Unit works in conjunction with the Department of Criminal Justice Services to provide information and tracking for all the offenders within the City of Rome. The City has approximately 125 registered sex offenders within our jurisdiction. The Unit establishes tracking through address verifications, home visits, 90 day updates, employment confirmation, internet capabilities, and provides media alerts to the public. Attached is a link for more information in regards to sex offenders and common questions.

There are three levels to the Sex Offender Registry.

  • Level 1 is least likely risk to re-offend. Level 1 offenders register for 20 years. A photo update is completed every three years and the offender must report any changes in personal information to the local Police Agency.
  • Level 2 is moderate risk to re-offend. Level 2 offenders register for life. A photo update is completed every three years and the offender must report any changes in personal information to local Police Agency.
  • Level 3 is highest risk to re-offend. Level 3 offenders register for life. A photo update is completed annually and the offender must report in with local Police Agency every 90 days.

All sex offenders must report any change in address, phone number, social media accounts, screen names, e-mail or internet accounts and physical appearance within 10 days.

Police Agencies do not set restrictions on sex offenders. A sex offender may have restrictions set ONLY if they are done so by probation or parole. Police Agencies cannot prevent a sex offender from residing within a certain area such as near a park or playground, which is a common misconception.
